"Top Ten" List for Acreage Reporting

1. Call and schedule an appointment.
Please call ahead to make an appointment, or to come in and pick up your maps.  Producers may choose to complete much of their report at home and return the report to the county office to be entered into the system by the appropriate crop reporting deadline. Having your maps filled out ahead of time will save time in the office. The number to call—for Ashe County is 336-246-8875 ext. 2, Alleghany County is 336-372-5590 ext. 2; and for Wilkes County 336-838-3622 ext. 2.

2. Have all your planting dates and planted acres ready.
Knowing how many acres of each crop is planted where (and the planting dates) when you walk in the door will save time in the office.

3. Have you Rented NEW land??
If you have picked up a new farm, we will need a signed lease or a statement from the farm owner(s) to add you to a farm. (Call with Questions)

4. Did any ownership changes occur on your rented land?
FSA needs names, addresses and tax identification numbers for the new owners.  This would be good to report to FSA prior to your scheduled day to certify.

5. Total Acreage Reports Required
The annual, timely and accurate reporting of acres for all crops and land uses, including failed acreage, can prevent loss of benefits for a variety of Farm Service Agency programs. All cropland on the farm must be reported to receive benefits from the New Farm Bill programs.

6. Did you purchase any land?
If so, we need a copy of the deed to change ownership and complete boundary changes.

7. Have you formed a Trust, Corporation, General Partnership or Limited Partnership?
If so, please contact our office so we can update your records before you come in to certify.

8. Have you brought new land into production, or taken land out of production?
If so, please bring these or any field boundary changes to our attention at the time of certification.  We'll then update your farm records so that you can correctly report your 2014 crop acres.

9. Did you have any Prevented Planting Acres?
If so, please contact your crop insurance agent first to see if you qualify for prevented planting prior to certifying with our office.

10. July 15 is the deadline to have all of your acres reported.

We look forward to seeing you!
