JOIN OUR 72-HOUR CHALLENGE       Dear Jen, If you told me 13 years ago that I'd be an activist for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender rights, I'd have said you were crazy. But I know now that each of us can have an impact on the LGBT movement—we just have to start with one simple action. Today, I challenge you to join me in the fight for LGBT equality. If you donate to the Human Rights Campaign within the next 72 hours, I will match your gift of any amount, up to $100,000. For most of my adult life, I helped raise my family in the Mormon Church and ran a successful business—while keeping my sexual orientation a secret. I knew that if I ever came out, I would risk both excommunication and total isolation from everyone for whom I loved and cared about. A lot of people think those dark days of discrimination against the LGBT community are over. I'm writing to tell you they're not.     Our biggest threat is complacency.   Join HRC with a gift and it will be doubled, or make a monthly commitment and your first gift will be doubled—for the next 72 hours.     While I was overjoyed to learn that a federal judge struck down the ban on same-sex marriage in my home state of Idaho, in the majority of states in this country, LGBT people still can't live openly and aren't free from discrimination or intolerance where they live.
