Today marks 500 days until the target date for the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). They have been, and continue to be, a symbol of our common humanity and a statement of the world's commitment to eradicating extreme poverty and hunger, combating disease, achieving gender equality and environmental sustainability, and extending hope and opportunity to billions across the world.

The progress we've seen is remarkable, yet with 500 days until the deadline, we have much work ahead of us.

At the Acting on the Call event, we launched a report that aligned all actors around country plans. We are working with country governments and partners to focus on interventions that will have the greatest impact, like voluntary family planning, routine immunizations, and neonatal care. With 500 days until the MDG target date, now is the time to support country governments in their efforts to achieve the MDGs and beyond.
