1.  National Taxpayer Advocate Identifies Priority Areas and Challenges in Mid-Year Report to Congress

National Taxpayer Advocate Nina E. Olson released her mid-year report to Congress this week, identifying the priority issues the Taxpayer Advocate Service (TAS) will address during the upcoming fiscal year. 

The report praises the IRS for implementing the Advocate's longstanding recommendation to adopt a Taxpayer Bill of Rights, running a "generally successful" 2014 filing season, and taking other recent actions.

2.  Extended Maintenance Window for Modernized e-File this Sunday

The Modernized e-File (MeF) Sunday maintenance build window is being extended on Sunday, July 20. The system will be unavailable from 1:00 a.m. until 9:00 a.m., Eastern Time. The build will deploy critical system updates. This extended window impacts the MeF Production and Assurance Testing System (ATS) Environments.

Thank you in advance for refraining from accessing the MeF Production and ATS Systems during this period.

4.  Phone Forum: 403(b) Plans Update and Latest Developments

Sign up now for this July 28 Phone Forum and join experienced IRS representatives from Employee Plans Technical and Guidance for an overview of the latest developments in the 403(b) world.  The overview will primarily focus on the 403(b) Pre-Approved Plan Program. This will include a discussion of program details as well as some of the issues the IRS is encountering as it begins to implement the program.
