2014 Fire Rescue International Memorial Stair Climb
Dallas: August 16, 2014, as part of the International Association of Fire Chief's (IAFC) Fire-Rescue International (FRI) Conference, the Dallas Fire-Rescue (DFR) Department, with the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF) and the Downtown Dallas Omni Hotel, will play host to the 2014 FRI Remembrance Stair Climb. Members of the public will join firefighters from around the country to climb the stairs of the Omni Hotel (located at 555 South Lamar Street) five and a half times, until they've reached 110 flights, in honor and remembrance of the 343 firefighters from the New York Fire Department (FDNY) who died on September 11, 2001.
Check-in will open at 7:30 AM, and the climb will begin at 9:10 AM. Registration is open to the public at http://www.active.com/dallas-tx/running/distance-running-races/fri-remembrance-stair-climb-2014, and the fee is $30 per person, which also includes a t-shirt. Proceeds raised through registration, and support enlisted from participants, will go to benefit the programs of the NFFF; and the Lieutenant Todd Wesley Krodle Memorial Foundation, which was created to award college scholarships to high school seniors who are children of DFR members, and to assist future DFR Line of Duty Death families.
Registration closes Friday, August 15, 2014, but is limited to the first 343 people who sign up. If unable to participate in the climb, people are encouraged to make a donation, at https://fundraising.active.com/event/stairclimb14-fri, to help the cause. The more who know the better; so please like us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter to help spread the word.
Remember, each person registered and each dollar donated not only goes to ensure that we'll never forget those who so bravely gave their lives on 9/11/01; but it also helps us to never forget the daily sacrifice of brave men and women across the country.
