Nominations for the 2014 County Committee Elections

The Ingham/Livingston FSA County Committee is seeking nominations in one of five Local Administrative Areas (LAAs) for the 2014 County Committee Elections (COC).   Appointment to this position will begin on January 1, 2015 and run through December 31, 2017.    COC positions are 3 years in a term with a 3 year consecutive term limit.   LAA5 represents producers from Handy, Howell, Iosco, Marion, Genoa, Brighton, Unadilla, Putnam, Hamburg, and Green Oak Townships in Livingston County.

To hold office as a COC member or alternate, a person must:

  •  be a producer with an interest in a farming or ranching operation
  •  participate or cooperate in any FSA program provided for by law
  •  be a U.S. citizen
  •  be of legal voting age
  •  meet the basic eligibility requirements
  •  be eligible to vote as an individual in LAA in which the person is a candidate or be representing a legal entity, other than a general partnership or joint venture, that is eligible to vote in LAA in which the person is a candidate
  •  reside in the county or multi-county jurisdiction in which they will be serving.

Significant emphasis continues to be placed on improving diversity on COC's.   The County Committee and Service Center employees are required to ensure the fair representation of agricultural producers including SDA farmers and ranchers (minority and female) in the area over which the Ingham/Livingston COC has jurisdiction.

FSA must also continue working on encouraging voters to look to beginning farmers and ranchers as a source for nominees of COC elections. COC's and County Office employees must reach out to beginning farmers and ranchers with information and encouragement to run for a seat on COC.

If you are interested in serving on the County Committee we encourage you to complete the nomination petition.  If you know of anyone you would like to see on the COC you can nominate them, they will need to complete the Nominee's Certification.  Nomination petition must be submitted by August 1, 2014.
