Nomination period for Blaine County COC begins.

County Executive Director Trista Costa announced nominations for the Farm Service Agency (FSA) county committee began June 15, 2014.  The nomination period continues through August 1, 2014.  Elections will take place this fall in Local Administrative Area 2 (LAA).  "I encourage all producers to participate in the county committee election process by nominating candidates by the August 1 deadline," said Costa.

To be eligible to serve on an FSA county committee, a person must participate or cooperate in a program administered by FSA, be eligible to vote in a county committee election and reside in the local administrative area in which the person is a candidate.

Producers may also nominate themselves, and organizations representing minorities and women may also nominate candidates.  To become a nominee, eligible individuals must sign nomination form FSA-669A.  The form and other valuable information about FSA county committee elections are available at the FSA office in Watonga and online at: http://www.fsa.usda.gov ; click on Newsroom, then County Committee Elections.  Nomination forms for the 2014 election must be postmarked or received in the local USDA Service Center by close of business on August 1, 2014.  The local USDA Service Center for Blaine County is located at 217 E Main. Watonga, OK 73772.  The office is open from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

FSA county committee members make decisions on disaster and conservation programs, emergency programs, commodity price support loan programs and other important agricultural issues.  Members serve 3 year terms.  Committees consist of three to five members who are elected by eligible local producers.  This year's election in LAA 2 takes place from November 3 through December 1, 2014.  The newly elected committee member and alternate(s) take office January 1, 2015.
