In his opening remarks, Secretary Jacob J. Lew focused on efforts to bolster global growth, emphasizing the importance of promoting job creation, raising living standards, and improving economic security worldwide. "If we want to make global growth more inclusive, we are going to have to tackle worldwide poverty. And one of the surest ways to combat global poverty is to increase women's economic participation," said Secretary Lew during the opening remarks at the event. "… The only way a country can realize the full potential of its economy is with the full participation of its entire population. So this is not a woman's issue; it is an economic one." In the closing remarks, Deputy Secretary Raskin reflected on topics covered during the event and highlighted the importance of global growth. Notably, she announced that she will be taking her first international trip as Deputy Secretary to Africa this month where she will lead the U.S. delegation at the 2014 Annual Meeting of the African Development Bank in Kigali, Rwanda.
Rosie Rios is the Treasurer of the United States of America.
