Stocks improved slightly but were still mixed in late trading, as techs continued to be a sore spot in the stock market today.

The Dow Jones industrial average and the S&P 500 were up 0.7% and 0.4% respectively. Meanwhile, the Nasdaq shaved a 1.5% deficit to 0.7%. But software, networking and Internet stocks still weighed on the tech-heavy index. Volume was again tracking sharply higher across the board.

Outside of energy, few leaders were up in large volume. But AerCap Holdings (AER) pushed further into record-high territory. The stock stretched its gain to nearly 5%, putting it a little more than 10% past a 43.05 buy point from a double-bottom base. On Tuesday, the aircraft leasing company delivered Q1 earnings that beat expectations and sales that missed views.

On the downside, Trimble Navigation (TRMB) pared a 16% loss to 12%, sending the company's stock back above its 200-day moving average. Late Tuesday, the GPS device maker reported disappointing Q1 results and offered a weak outlook for the current quarter.

SolarCity (SCTY) tumbled 11% to its lowest levels since November ahead of its first-quarter results, which are set to be reported after the close. The solar systems installer is expected to post a loss of 74 cents a share, but sales are slated to jump 78% to $53.39 million.

YY (YY) fell 8% and breached support at its 200-day line. Shares tumbled 8% Tuesday, despite better-than-expected quarterly results from late Monday. The stock has wiped out gains from a breakout past a 56.85 buy point cleared in January.

Antero Resources (AR), Avis Budget Group (CAR), Continental Resources (CLR), Ctrip.com International (CTRP), Keurig Green Mountain (GMCR) Sanchez Energy (SN) and Zillow (Z) are some notable firms reporting earnings after the close.
